Cultures have built walls around themselves for centuries, trying (futilely) to protect them selves from 'contamination.' This recording project seeks to expose the emotional dimension around what building of walls do to individuals in a growing number of countries, presenting artists from Palestine, Morocco, Syria, Kashmir, Cyprus and Mexico performing together with American and European artists presenting their interpretations in English of the original songs. Artists include Rim Banna (Palestine), Mahmoud Gania (Morocco), Abdul Rashid Farash (Kashmir), Esmaeel Mdah (Syria), Michael Tterlikkas (Cyprus), Natacha Atlas (UK/Egypt), Tom Russell (USA), Mimi Goese (USA), Sarah Jane Morris (UK), Eva Dahlgren (Sweden) and Morten Harket (Norway). . The wall in Cyprus expresses the wound between the Islamic and the Christian world in Europe.
. The wall in Kashmir is a frozen war between two nuclear powers and divides one of the most beautiful gardens on the planet.
. The wall between USA and Mexico divides the Mexican culture and population.
. The walls around Ceuta and Melilla, two Spanish enclaves in Morocco expresses the fortification Europe in our time strengthen in order to limit the flow of immigrants from the poorer countries.

.. Most of the walls that are being decided built by people in power are built and maintained in order to fortify a rich world against a poorer.
This project wants to expose the emotional dimension around what building of walls do to individuals in a growing number of countries.

Rim Banna the Palestinian singer, lyricist and composer, born in Nazareth in The Galilee. She has loved music and singing since her childhood and was active in school activities. She has also participated in “The Land’s Day Festivals” and other National and political celebrations.
She started her artistic life since she was ten years old.
Rim Banna studied music and singing in the High Institute for Music “GNESINS” in Moscow (USSR), and she specialized in modern singing and conducting singing ensembles, under the tutorship of the famous artist and composer Vladimer Karobka, where she graduated in 1991 with excellent mark, after six years of academic studies.
At that period she produced two albums of her live recorded concerts :
“Jafra” in 1985.
“Your Tears, Mother” in 1986.
In 1991, Rim Banna got married to Leonid Alexeienko from Ukraine who is an artist. He studied music with her in the same institute in Moscow.

Both of them are working together in the music field and compose their own music.

Rim Banna and Leonid live in Nazareth, the Capital of The Galilee, and they have a daughter her name is Baylasan.

Rim Banna and Leonid participated in different Palestinian, Arabic and International concerts and Festivals, where she presented the Palestinian Voice and the Palestinian song in all her participation which was received with popular success and admiration....

In 2003 the Norwegian record label Kirkelig Kulturverksted published the CD Lullabies from the Axis of Evil تهويدات من محور الشر containing 14 lullabies from Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan and Cuba. Every lullaby is presented in its original form sung by women from these countries, and then a western version with interpretations in English
