« L’arbre des modes » est la figuration symbolique qui nous présente l’organisation du système mélodique marocain arabo-andalou. Les quatre branches de l’Arbre des Modes se ramifient en 24 types de mélodies. En deux CDS, le présent enregistrement entend reconstituer et ré-ordonner l’architecture intégrale de l’ancien système des 24 modes. Ahmed Shiki, grand joueur de oud devenu également luthier, est né à Fès en 1958 et a grandi dans le giron secret de cette métropole arabo-andalouse. ... « The tree of modes » is the symbol representing the organisation of the Moroccan Arab-Andalus melodic system. Its four branches illustrate the four fundamental sets of sound modes as well as the four humours of the human microcosm. The present recording aspires to reconstitute and re-order the integral architecture of the ancient 24-mode system. Ahmed Shiki, a talented lute player who has also become a lute maker, was born in 1958 in Fes, and grew up within the secret bosom of this Andalus metropolis.
