Orchestre Andalous - Attawachi Talata - Moulay Ahmed Loukili

Artist : Moulay Ahmed Loukili

Album : Orchestre Andalous - Attawachi Talata

Melodies :

1.Attawachi Talata
2.Insiraf Kodem Lhijaz Lemchargi
3.Sanaii Men Kodem Listihlal

Saida began singing at age 8 and wrote her first song at 12, so it isn't a surprise that she has gone far in her career.
Saida is part of a new generation of female singers who for the first time have had the courage to express themselves through a personal style about subjects which concern them deeply. Always concerned with writing brand new songs of different genres, Saida has ended up creating her own inimitable style. Moreover, she is a total artist: writing her own words, composing her own music, and performing her own songs, she is responsible for all the elements of her art from start to finish.

This is music from El Andalus at its best. Gharnati, which can be translated as "music from Granada" is filled with sensual longing and old memories; through Amina's voice the old ghosts take place here in this world with dignity and grace. Amina herself is rather amazing - she has degrees in philosophy, philology and dance and her spiritual beauty and wisdom show themselves in her voice and in this sublime album.

Amina Alaoui is a scholar of philology, linguistics, and dance, and a prominent exponent of the ancient music style gharnati. She was born in 1964 to a traditional Fassi family, and has pursued an eclectic musical path that lead her to work with musicians from medieval, Persian, and flamenco musical backgrounds. She is accompanied in many of concerts by the ensemble of Ahmed Piro, a native of Rabat who is considered one of the great Arab-Andalusian musicians.
Gharnati (Arabic for Granada) is one of the major Andalusian musical styles, migrated from Granada, Spain, to Morocco in the 15th century. Its roots lie in the diverse music schools of medieval Andalusia, where the Arab-Andalusian musical style originally developed some 800 years earlier.Gharnati was preserved by the Tlemceni families and other communities that fled Spain to settle in several places, Morocco, especially in Fes.
Album : the ancient Andalusian poetry that Moroccan singer Amina Alaoui brings to radiant life in Alcantara has been in her family for generations. Her relatives sang the 500-year-old poems at gatherings and her grandmother murmured them while working on embroidery. The CD, whose title means "the bridge," takes listeners over time and land to the Muslim dynasties of medieval Spain and the music created there. This unique, melodious music along with Alaoui's aromatic voice makes Alcantara one of the best CDs of 1998. --Karen Karleski
Alcantara is a testament to the beauty of simplicity. This CD holds deliciously exotic music spun from the lovely singing of Moroccan vocalist Amina Alaoui and light but expressive guitar and percussive accompaniment from Henri Agnel and Bijan Chemirani. Empty of any sublime pretensions or girlish Western tone, Alaoui sings simply and maturely--with the love for her Anadalusian heritage spilling naturally through. Her style reminds one of Cesaria Evora--not singing to impress but to preserve and celebrate her culture's music. Rooted in a Muslim dynasty of Spain that ruled from the 8th to the 15th century, Andalusian music has a distinctly ancient, Arabic feel that's not particularly melancholy, certainly not solemn--just lyrical and elegant. And Alaoui portrays these qualities with a rare grace and expertise. To mine for more gems of Amina Alaoui's talent, check out her first U.S. release, Gharnati: Arabo-Andalusian Music of Morocco.

*Emil Zrihan : Emil Zrihan, cantor of the synagogue in Ashkelon, kept the Judeo-Andalusian and folk traditions of his mother country Morocco alive in his heart. Following the immense success on stage here at last is the international debut album by the man nicknamed "the voice of the mocking bird". The impressive vocal range and power of Zrihan's counter tenor express both the emotional intensity of North African religious songs and the vivacity of Andalusian music. His fascinating "mawals" (improvisations) are subtly enhanced by oud, violin, accordion and darbuka which repeat the themes with spirit and gusto. The upbeat rhythmic tempo with its Mediterranean flavor alternates with passages imbued with the languor of the Orient, a mix which evokes the family gatherings, the songs and the dances of the Sephardic culture. The guest of honor on Zrihan's recent album, Baldi Olier, adds the sensitivity tempered with pride of his guitar playing style which stems from the purest of flamenco tradition. The producer Yossi Fine has managed to capture the strength of Emil Zrihan's extraordinary voice, adding bass and both African and Brazilian percussion to the traditional instruments, thereby conferring on this album a sound which is at once profound and elegant, light and playful and which invites the listeners to move and shake, to click their fingers, to clap their hands, and inevitably to dance. Emil Zrihan, the Moroccan Nightingale, was acclaimed as the surprise of Womex 97. A performer who captivates audiences with his exceptional contra-tenor voice and stage presence. The voice of Emil Zrihan, stamped a note of deep satisfaction on everything that happened at the Womex Festival, with his holy songs from North Africa and tonal Arabic-Andalusian music.
