Les Ouldémé sont un des peuples non islamisés qui vivent dans les Monts Mandara, à l'extrême nord du Cameroun. Leur vie est à tel point liée au cycle végétal qu'à chaque étape de la culture du mil correspond une formation instrumentale spécifique où dominent les flûtes. La complexité de ces musiques réside dans l'enchevêtrement des timbres et des hauteurs auxquels la voix vient se mêler dans des contrepoints riches et virtuoses. Ce disque ne remonte pas le temps, il l'accélère : en nous faisant partager leur musique, les Ouldémé nous convient à passer une année musicale au creux de leurs montagnes
The Ouldeme are one of the non Muslim peoples living in the Mandara Mountains, at the far north of Cameroon. Their lives are linked to the agrarian cycle at such an extent that to each step in the cultivation of millet corresponds a specific instrumental set of flutes. The complexity of this music comes from the criss-cross of tones and pitches, mixed to the voice and organized in rich and virtuoso counterpoints. This CD does not go back to the origin of time, it accelerates it by inviting us to spend a musical year in Ouldeme mountains
